The peoples of ancient Iraq produced unique collections of artistic objects and monuments using a variety of raw materials, manufacturing and construction techniques and left behind a culture of diverse vision and material significance from prehistoric times onwards. Several factors contributed to the formation of the character of art and architecture in ancient Iraq, including the political and social organization of the Mesopotamian city-states, and the kingdoms and empires that succeeded them.
